Video Poker Wild Card Strategy

Taking a Look at Advanced Video Poker Strategy

Many people don’t believe it, but video poker is actually a game of skill. With the right strategy, it is one of the games with the lowest house edges available, so for many reasons, it is the game of choice for many.

As we know, video poker is a typical dealer game. You get dealt a set of 5 cards and you muck the losers. The next round sees you with replacements being dealt, and if you’re lucky – you hit the jackpot.

However, What’s the secret to Video Poker?

The secret no one wants to tell you is that with video poker, the house doesn’t always win. If you have the skill and the strategy it is possible to have a return of over 100%.

The Secret Strategy

Take a look below for one of the most definitive strategies when it comes to beating the house. If you find a full pay machine, then the payout is over 100%. Just don’t make a mistake!

This strategy is based on Wild Cards (WC) or Deuces.

Four Wildcards
The ultimate hand (keep everything).

Three Wildcards
Keep WC, muck anything that’s not a royal flush (WC) or five of a kind (WC)

Two Wildcards
Keep four cards to a Royal, or four of a kind. Muck anything else apart from the wild cards.

No WC
Play like normal, followed by the following:
Keep four or five to a royal
Keep three of a kind and Straight flush
Keep Four to a Straight,
Keep Three to a Royal
Keep Pairs
Keep four to a flush,
keep four to an open straight (one that can be won with low or high cards)
Keep three to a straight flush
Keep four to a closed straight apart from a straight 2.
Keep 2 to a royal and high card jack and above.

It seems complicated, but it’s actually really simple. Write it down and master it! Four to a royal means four cards to a royal flush, and three to a royal – you’ve guessed it – three cards to a royal flush.

If you don’t know your hands, then take a quick look online and learn off by heart what a straight, flush, and royal flush are, and also – don’t be scared to try it with play money first.

Good Luck!
