Whenever you see somebody in the pub playing the slot machines or the video poker games, you sometimes ask yourself what type of a gambler is he?

If he is there all the time playing the automatic response he must be a pathological gambler. The real question asked will be is he?

There are many different types of players and styles which are often seen at poker games. Here you can see players that play aggressively whereas there are those who sit quietly and there are ones who won’t take a risk.

To look at the type of player you are when playing slots we have looked into the different types of gambler. This will give you an idea of where you are in terms of gambling.

The Social Gambler is a person who belongs to the mainstream and finds gambling a form of entertainment and occasionally engages in it. This may be if there is a big fight or football match. This person has no gambling problems at all. After this we move on to the Frequent Gambler and here gambling plays a more important part in their lives. You are still OK and there are no financial problems involved.

The previous forms of gambler are the majority of people, but some move towards the more serious end of it and then it becomes a problem. Problem gamblers use gambling as a get rich quick scheme and this leads to ruin. This is a serious thing to consider as it leads to social and financial problems easily.

The next type is a dilemma for some people as it sits between the careful and the problem gamblers. This is the Professional Gambler who uses gambling as a source of income. They plan their bets and games carefully and don’t tend to lose control. The problems begin when they win too much or lose too much.

People often can get left behind when it comes to technology. This is due in part to the rapid and ever-changing face of it. Now if you are like me and don’t know a Monitor from a Mouse then never fear about the Hardware bit.

It is useful to know that if your computer has only been bought recently, around 5 years old, then you have no need to worry as it will contain all the nitty gritty that you need to download the casino.

For those with older models then the following list will give you an idea and you can always write it down and give it to the shop attendant.

16 MB RAM

IBM PC compatible computer, Pentium 100 MHz

SVGA Monitor

16-bit color video card (800 x 600 resolution)

Microsoft compatible mouse

Windows 95 or later versions

Sound Blaster compatible sound card

20 MB free hard drive space although this varies

14.4 KB modem

CD-ROM Drive (8x)

The State of Kentucky is vigorously continuing its attempt to seize control of well over 100 privately owned domain names in its State Supreme Court. The domain names just happen to be related to the very lucrative online casino industry.

In a bizarre case that has many interested observers from all sides of the globe watching, the State of Kentucky is appealing an early decision that it had misinterpreted the term of ‘gambling device’ to include domain names related to internet casino gambling. It was argued by the defense that the legislature never intended ‘gambling device’ to include an internet domain name. Part of the argument put forward by the defense was that the legislation was drafted at a time when the internet was not present, therefore it could never have been envisaged to cover domain names.

The case before the Kentucky Supreme Court is capturing major attention not just within the online casino gambling world, but from all corners of the globe. Many see it as an attempt by the State of Kentucky to flex their muscles and establish jurisdiction not just over online casinos operating within the United States, but in other countries as well.

The State of Kentucky has been trying to argue that companies, wherever they may be located in the world, are operating illegal online casinos within their State, and it is insignificant that the domain names are registered outside their physical jurisdiction. However, lawyers representing the the various online casinos are arguing that there is presently no law in the State of Kentucky that prohibits online casino gambling in that.

Where have the progressive online casino jackpots gone? In over a week now there hasn’t been so much as whisper of a progressive jackpot going off. Chinese whispers are spreading like wild fire through the online casino community. This is certainly testament to the fact that the internet savvy online gambler is very clued up with not only what is going on in their own favoured online casino, but more importantly what’s happening in the others.

This realization has certainly made online casino operators wake up and listen. Operators are only all too aware that in the highly competitive market place of online casinos, customer satisfaction and loyalty is paramount to the continued success of their online casinos. Some operators have openly acknowledge that getting a player on board is one thing, but keeping them on board is a whole new ball game in itself. If you don’t give them what they want, then don’t expect them to hang around. This is why online casinos are always trying to stay ahead of the pack and offer new and exciting bonuses and promotions.

The online player need not be alarmed however. Truth be told, it has only been 9 days since a progressive jackpot went off, and in the past few months, a staggering four million dollars has been paid out to players in progressive jackpots. Progressive jackpots are driven by strong player action, and with another weekend approaching, there may very well be another progressive jackpot about to drop.

Is there a bigger threat to bricks and mortar casinos than the credit crunch? Some observers say it’s only a short matter of time before online casinos show that they are a very much a force to be reckoned with.

Las Vegas is often described as no other place on earth when it comes to the excitement of its larger than life casinos. Not far being Las Vegas is the former Portuguese colony of Macau. For years people have flocked to their casinos looking for fun, excitement and adventure, along with the hope of hitting the jackpot big time. Whilst Las Vegas has long been favoured as a venue for all over entertainment, Macau is seen as a serious bettors’ Mecca. However, over the past year, most, if not all casinos worldwide have been hit hard by the credit crunch. Players are tightening their belts, and visiting casinos is just not within their budget. The allure of exciting shows and concerts, the traditional draw card of most casinos is still not enough to entice players to the traditional betting floor.

The credit crunch however may not be the casino’s biggest threat. More and more people are today turning to online casinos due to their convenience and significant savings in not having to travel to a traditional casino. With superb realism, great bonuses and progressive jackpots, some say they are just far more desirable to that of traditional casinos. Will online casinos be the death knell to traditional casinos. Only time will tell, but the clock is ticking fast.

A reported commissioned by the Australian Federal Government has found that Australians would benefit significantly from the present ban on online casinos being lifted, in favour of Federal Government oversight and regulation, with the main benefit being consumer protection.

The report released by the Australian Federal Productivity Commission studied the broad impact of gambling within Australian communities. The report went on to further question the legalities of a blanket ban on online casino gambling in Australia. It also raised serious concerns that not only is the ban ineffective and impossible to police, it leaves consumers vulnerable and unprotected.

Figures released by the Federal Commission found that although there was a total ban in place for online casino gambling, 4% of gambling came from online casinos alone. The figure quoted was also said to be rising at an alarming rate. The report was critical, saying that the ban left its citizens in danger of unscrupulous online casino operators with no Federal Government protection. The Federal Commission favoured lifting the ban and implementing a system of licensing, regulation and control.

The Commission’s report was scathing in its findings, saying that the Australian Government must give up on its failed ban, and set in place a system of licensing and regulation that would not only guard against problem gamblers and children, but prevent money laundering and fraud, in which online gambling is seen as a soft target.

Under the present system, online casino gambling is available to any Australian, 24 hours per day, and virtually allows gambling with zero restrictions, leaving those most vulnerable at the greatest risk.

In yet another positive sign that the online casino industry is stepping up to the plate in the corporate responsibility department, the Remote Gambling Association (RGA) will release a training video which has been produced to inform interested parties, such as lawmakers and consumers, the steps which online casinos can implement to protect consumers. The video has been timed to be released on the appropriately named Responsible Gambling Awareness Day.

The RGA is currently the peak industry body representing the interests of online casinos operators within Europe. The video will highlight how the online casino industry can put in place systems and processes to protect its valued customers. Areas of focus include addressing problem gambling and blocking access to online casino sites to underage people. The RGA’s core focus, through industry participation and support, is to ensure that online gambling remains a harmless and safe leisure activity.

Since the mass introduction of online casinos in recent years, the industry has attracted a lot of criticism from many groups for not being seen to actively address issues such as underage gambling. It has widely been believed by some that the problems associated with online gambling have been neglected in favour of profits. The RGA is however taking those concerns on board, and actively working on ways to implement systems that address those issues in line with community expectations. The RGA takes its important role very seriously, and has previously donated significantly to Gambling Therapy, an online counseling service for compulsive and problem gamblers.

A lot of interesting things have happened in Russia since the fall of the Iron Curtain, but since the Government all of a sudden placed an all out ban on slot machines and casinos, there has been a mass explosion in the popularity of online casinos.

Russians have never been seen as shy when it comes to making a bet, and with the recent Government ban, there has been an immediate surge in the popularity of other sources of gambling activity, with most now turning to online casino gambling as a suitable alternative. This has caused the Russian Government to openly acknowledge that they were ill prepared when implementing the ban, as the laws were either inadequate or they did not have the technology to combat their citizens moving from traditional casinos to online casinos.

Previously quiet Russian internet cafes have now found themselves full to capacity, with some now saying open 24/7 to meet demand. Only now their customers are not surfing the internet or sending emails, but playing the online casinos.

The police are now playing a constant cat and mouse game between the owners of internet cafes and their online happy gamblers. As soon as one internet cafe is closed down by the police, several more pop up in their place.

One keen observer has also noted that the prohibition has seen 1500 people lose their jobs, and Government revenue from casinos has completely dried up. With online casinos all profits are directed elsewhere.
