Sailboats
A starting hand of four four in a Holdem game. Also known as Pocket Fours.
Sandbag
Checking a strong hand with intentions of raising or re-raising. A slow play.
Satellite
A mini tournament played where the winner will enter a larger tournament.
Sausage
Players who play with no sense of what is happening at the table.
School
All players at a table.
Scoop
To win the entire pot.
Seat charge
The fee charged to players for playing in a room. Usually an hourly fee.
Seating list.
If a table is full, the future player can place their name on a list and wait for seat to be available.
Second pair
Pairing the second highest card in a flog game.

To call.
Sell
Same meaning as sandbagging.
Semi-bluff
When players make a bet with a hand that is weak but has the possibility of becoming a stronger hand.
Set
Three of a kind, which means a pair in hand and a matching card on the board.
Shark
A very good player. The sharks typically “eat” the fish, or weaker players.
Shill
A casino employee who is paid to play at a table and plays with the house money. Usually done to fill up an empty seat.
Shorthand
A game with no more than 6 players.
Short stack
When a player has fewer chips than the other players.
Shoot-out
A game where if a player loses all their chips, they are out of the game. They are not allowed to buy back into the game.
Sidepot
A secondary pot for players who are not playing for the main pot. These players can bet for their sidepot and only those players are eligible to win this pot.
Slowplay
To get more money into the pot by bluffing by a player who has an unbeatable hand. The player plays slowly by betting and raising low in the hopes that the other player raises.
Small bling
The smallest of the two forced bets preflop. A player on the left of the dealer will post the small blind.
Smooth
The best low hand with a particular high card.
Snap off
Beating another player, usually a player who bluffed and often without a very good hand.
Snowmen
The starting hand of Eight Eight in Holdem games.
Speed
The level of aggressiveness that a player uses to play. Slow or fast.
Speed limit
A starting hand of Five Five in Holdem.
Splash around.
A player who plays loosely.
Splash the pot
Throwing the chips into the pot, as opposed to placing them in front of that player. Dealers do not like this as it makes it difficult to see how much was thrown.
Split
A tie.
Spread
When a game has started for a particular game.
Spread limit
Maximum and minimum betting limits set for each hand.
Squeeze
Looking at your hold cards slowly while they are at the table. Often, this will worry your opponents and increases the drama.
Stay
Where a player remains with their hand with a call and not raise.
Steel wheel
In a lowball game this is a straight flush.
Straddle
a big blind raise before the game deal.
Stub
The part of the deck that has not yet been dealt.
Stuck
A term for losing large sums of money.
Suit
Diamonds, clubs, hearts and spades. In Poker, no suit is better than another. A flush is the hand used for suits.
